Where was the port of the city of Gela located between the 7th and 5th centuries?

On the magazine Heritage research has been published dedicated to the paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the city of Gela between the 7th and 5th centuries BC, by a team of researchers from the Universities of Naples Federico II, Molise, Malta and Messina.

Our company had the pleasure of operationally supporting the study by carrying out the core sampling necessary for the stratigraphic investigations. Through the sampling and analysis of the sediments, the archaeologists were able to reconstruct the succession of the deposits and collect the data on which the scientific framework of the research is based.

The study highlights how the configuration of the coastline in ancient times was different from the current one and highlights the decisive role of river dynamics in modeling the landscape. The results offer an in-depth reading of the evolution of the Gela territory; the paleo-environmental reconstruction, in fact, allows us to understand the relationship between territory and human settlements more precisely, providing a new vision of the geomorphological transformations that have affected the area over the centuries.

Supporting this research meant contributing to the knowledge of an area we live in every day. Furthermore, we strongly believe that scientific research deserves support, regardless of whether it is directly related to our field of intervention. Investing in knowledge means strengthening the bond with the territory, enhancing its history and contributing to building a more solid collective awareness.
